Electrical insulation - Sealant for thermal spray coatings

Common sprayed insulation layers, for example made of Al₂O₃, ZrO₂ or Cr₂O₃, are microporous and often hygroscopic. This means they can absorb moisture, which can impair the electrical insulation effect. A suitable sealer in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14924 can help and can even improve the insulation properties.

We offer highly effective sealants with tested proof of function for the electrical insulation of thermally sprayed coatings.

As part of a product development project, we have developed a sealant with electrical insulation properties for our customer Plasmatic Franken GmbH. In combination with the spray coating, the sealant provides electrical insulation of 10 GW at a voltage (DC) of 1,000V. Following successful pre-series production, Plasmatic is now using the sealant for hundreds of components in series production. Rolling bearings for electric motors, such as those used in rail vehicles, are exposed not only to mechanical but also electrical loads. Special ceramic insulating coatings are used to prevent damage in the form of electrical erosion caused by high-frequency currents. sealer of these spray coatings plays a central role. The sealer increases the electrical insulation of the coating and reduces friction in the drive train. This increases the service life of the rolling bearing and enables a reduction in energy and material during production. This not only makes the rolling bearings more economical, but also more sustainable.

Product range

Our products are as diverse and unique as your spray coatings. For optimum function and maximum benefit, it is important in most cases to adapt the sealer to the spray coating and the subsequent application. We have specialized in the development and adaptation of sealers for thermal spray coatings. Talk to us, we are sure to find a suitable solution.

dichtol HTR HS #2530

The all-rounder1-component silicone sealant with a high solids content (up to 98%) and temperature resistance up to +500°C suitable for many applications. Silicones offer a low permittivity or dielectric constant (𝓔r < 3.0) and are therefore ideal as an insulator for optimizing the electrical resistance of the thermal spray coating. dichtol HTR HS is easy to dilute and can therefore be optimized in terms of penetration behavior and insulation effect.

dichtol HTR HS 50S #2532

The all-rounder, diluted – Ready-touse system based on dichtol HTR HS with the addition of 50% thinner. Thus reduced solids content. For some layers (especially very dense layers), this results in better penetration behavior and consequently a better insulating effect.

dichtol HS-EP #2616

The specialist2-component epoxy resin sealer with maximum solids (100%) without VOC and temperature resistance up to 150°C. Very low viscosity EP resin with excellent penetration properties. The permittivity or dielectric constant is 𝓔r < 3.8 and therefore provides very good insulation results in conjunction with thermal spray coatings.
