Our colleague Nicole Assenheimer has now been given this unique opportunity thanks to an exciting networking trip organised by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce. Together with a group of around 30 people, she was given a comprehensive insight into the processes of Frankfurt air freight logistics, which she would like to report on:
‘We had the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes at Germany’s largest airport and were given a comprehensive insight into the processes and challenges of air freight logistics.
With a freight volume of almost 2 million tonnes of air freight per year, Frankfurt Airport is of major importance for international transport to the destination airports. With more than 300 connections, Frankfurt Airport is the world leader.
One of my personal highlights was seeing how the impressive cargo planes can be loaded with up to 100 tonnes of freight.
Finally, we were given a tour of the Swissport warehouse with an insight into the loading process for import and export goods from all over the world.
Swissport’s warehouse assembles ULD containers for the transport of goods up to a height of 3 metres. These special containers are crucial for the safe and efficient transport of goods by air freight.
A big thank you to the Chamber of Industry und Commerce for organising this great event and to the team at Frankfurt Airport for this unique insight behind the scenes.
