Wind turbines with hub heights of up to 150 metres can be realised thanks to hybrid towers. This increases the yield enormously, but also leads to a permanently higher load on the towers.
The modular hybrid tower is anchored to the ground on a massive concrete foundation via a tension ring (load ring) with threaded bolts and secured against sinking or falling over. The foundation also absorbs the lateral forces acting on the tower. When the base steel segment is mounted on the clamping ring (load ring), serious splitting can occur, which rules out safe commissioning.
In order to ensure the safe operation of an Enercon hybrid tower at the Gardelegen wind farm (Saxony-Anhalt), the gaps of up to three millimetres between the clamping ring on the concrete foundation and the attached steel tower segment were filled with our MM1018 – The Liquid-Shim®.
The result: a force-fit and form-fit connection between the clamping ring and the steel tower base in a short time!
But how is our product MM1018 – The Liquid-Shim® used in practice? And what advantages does our positive and non-positive product offer compared to the conventional method?
