DIAMANT presents innovative solutions for additive manufacturing at FORMNEXT

The best of both worlds – functional potting compounds for additive manufacturing

Based on decades of expertise in the formulation of high-performance polymer systems, DIAMANT Polymer GmbH has developed a range of functional potting compounds for additive manufacturing. The low-viscosity fillers and composites can be used to efficiently optimize the material properties of 3D printed objects, opening up a range of new application possibilities for manufacturers and saving both time and money.

With a specific weight of 0.6 kg/l, the ultra-light, highly stable variant of the DIAMANT casting compound is lighter than water. This gives additively manufactured objects additional stability with reduced overall weight and wall thickness. As a result, the use of 3D printing filament in additive manufacturing can be reduced, which lowers manufacturing costs.

With a specific weight of up to 4 kg/l and very good insulation values, DIAMANT casting compounds are also suitable for the efficient thermal insulation or magnetization of 3D printed components. The additional fiber-reinforced version of the DIAMANT potting compound gives additively manufactured objects greater tensile and flexural strength so that they can also withstand higher loads.

At the DIAMANT trade fair stand, the possible applications of the functional casting compounds will be clearly presented with exhibits. For example, with 3D-printed kettlebells with different weights or an additively manufactured dartboard magnetized by potting. In a hands-on workshop, visitors will be shown how to use DIAMANT casting compounds. In practice, the DIAMANT Polymer GmbH team of experts will be on hand to provide customers with help and advice at all times.

Sealing and pore-deep impregnation of 3D printed components

DIAMANT has developed the universal solution dichtol AM Hydro to efficiently seal components in 3D printing against gases and liquids. The low-viscosity high-performance polymer quickly and reliably seals and impregnates components down to the pores. dichtol AM Hydro adapts flexibly to the operating conditions of additive manufacturing and reliably seals pores up to 0.2 mm in diameter. This means that porous surfaces can be impregnated, sealed and finished in a single work step.

dichtol AM Hydro was developed for additive manufacturing in common 3D printing processes. The solvent-free, water-based high-performance polymer is suitable for both filament printing and powder-based manufacturing processes. It enables the permanent, seamless sealing and impregnation of workpieces and components made from common materials – in particular PLA, ASA, ABS and polyamide.

While conventional sealers only protect the surface of 3D-printed components, dichtol AM Hydro penetrates all pores, no matter how fine, and hardens there. The hard-elastic polymer anchors itself in the treated part and seals it reliably, even at changing temperatures. The treated surface is thus not only sealed, but also impregnated in depth.

Following the positive experience at Formnext 2021 at the joint VDMA stand, DIAMANT Polymer GmbH will be presenting its solutions for additive manufacturing at its own stand for the first time this year. DIAMANT Managing Director Carsten Kunde is “looking forward to the application-oriented presentation of our product range and the constructive exchange with trade visitors from all over the world.”
