Construction site on Duisburg’s Heerstraße: a tight schedule where every detail had to be just right. Duisburg city centre now boasts a 30-metre-long steel arch bridge, providing pedestrians with a direct link from the main railway station to the Rhine. This project is not only functional, but also visually impressive, as the bridge stands out in its bright melon yellow colour.
We were also involved in this project, as our MM1018 gap filling material – The Liquid Shim® – was used in the pre-assembly of the bridge.
During the installation of the spherical bearings, the steel constructor faced a typical but critical challenge: welding distortions on the base plates resulted in tolerance deviations of up to 1.5 mm – too much to ensure precise bearing support.
This is exactly where the advantages of MM1018 come into play:
Applied on site, the polymer metal reliably compensated for the unevenness and created a force- and form-fitting connection – resilient, precise and durable.
Thanks to the good coordination with MWM, the work was completed smoothly even under the tight schedule.
